Surfing

Discover Ontario’s best surfing destination

Banish the thought of only being able to surf in places like Hawaii or California – you can get on a board right here in Bruce County! We have two great communities just waiting for you to hit the waves.

Ride the Wave

Any surfer will tell you, timing is everything, and nowhere is that more evident than the surf on the Great Lakes. With more than 17 kilometers of coastline, Kincardine is a spot with the perfect combination of underwater terrain and wind currents to create those clean peeling waves. But swells here are fickle; they can come up fast and sometimes they will be gone in as little as three hours. Other times a swell can last all day, giving surfers unlimited action. As well, Sauble Beach, the second longest freshwater beach in the world, is known for its exceptional surfing culture. Grab your board or rent one from a local shop and experience the excitement of Sauble surfing.

Ontario’s Surfing Hot Spot

The wind from Lake Huron and the depth of the water makes the perfect waves for great lakes surfing! During the spring and the fall, you can get as many as 50 days of solid surfing.

Find more than a great beach in Sauble

Before and after the crowds hit this popular beach, you’ll see local surfers hitting the waves. After their work shift and you’ll see them hitting the waves on good days – just be careful, it’ll make you want to rent a board to try it out. Trust us, their excitement is contagious!

Want to try but need a board?

Boards can be rented or bought at:
SurfsUp Eco Shop – Kincardine
Jack’n Jills Surf Shop – Sauble Beach
The surf shops can also give you an idea of what to expect on any given day – wave heights, wind direction, etc. – being surfers themselves!
