Travel by Trail!

It is not difficult to understand why many say Port Elgin is "Ontario's trail lovers heaven". Whether biking, hiking, running, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing, Port Elgin has a bountiful of trails to greet you. For those interested in adventuring into shaded, forested areas, Beiner's Bush Trail is a hiker's dream. Located just outside of Port Elgin, these serene trails travel through rolling hills and forested terrain. This relatively easy 2.1km loop trail is a great way to get those steps in surrounded by the beauty of the changing fall leaves!

Beyond using trails for passive exercise, the Saugeen Shores trail system offers a fantastic way to travel between Port Elgin and its neighboring northern town, Southampton. Following the Lake Huron shoreline, the asphalt North Shore Trail is a perfect way to travel by foot or on wheels. It is only about a half hour bike ride between the towns on the North Shore Trail. However, you may want to budget some extra time to take photos of the many scenic viewpoints along the way. Especially in the fall, the fiery coloured trees frame the lake beautifully. If needed, you can even rent a bike from Martins Bicycle Shop in Southampton, ride into Port Elgin to enjoy the boardwalk vibes for the day before returning to Southampton for a sunset ride along the shore. Enjoying the journey between the towns is sure to be a memorable experience!

Alternative to the North Shore Trail, the Saugeen Rail Trail is another fantastic hiking or biking route between Port Elgin and Southampton! With a mix of pavement and gravel, the Saugeen Rail Trail is popular for hikers and bikers alike. There are washroom facilities located along the path and shaded shelters provide a much-appreciated place to rest and rehydrate.

Check out our trails map for more information on trails in Saugeen Shores and across Bruce County.

MacGregor Point Provincial Park

Located south of Port Elgin along the Lake Huron shoreline, MacGregor Point Provincial Park has over 350 campsites and accommodations. Whether you are hauling your family trailer, or backpacking with a tent, MacGregor Park has sites for both families and those looking for a more rustic experience. If camping is not your forte, no worries! Port Elgin has many accommodation options, so you can come and enjoy Macgregor Park for the day. With playgrounds, over 20km of trails, and private beaches, MacGregor Park is where memories are made.

MacGregor Park is particularly beautiful in the fall. The wooded sites emerge to serene autumnal getaways and the deep blue lake water reflects the fiery orange of surrounding trees. Bundle up, grab your camera, and hiking gear to explore the endless fall forest. You won't be disappointed.

Motorcycle Tours

Is there any better way to enjoy the lake breeze than cruising the shoreline as you hear the engine of your motorcycle roar? Motorcycling is a popular past time in Bruce County, and it is easy to understand why! Particularly around Port Elgin, there are many scenic roads and routes which are a biker's dream.

Miramichi Bay Road and North Shore Road between Southampton and Port Elgin provide a refreshing lakeside breeze and gorgeous sunset views for travelling bikers. South of Port Elgin, take the scenic way to Kincardine via Bruce Road 23 and 33. With less traffic and more trees, this route is the perfect fall tour. You can almost smell the crisp fall leaves as you cruise down these paved county roads. With many more motorcycle tours, your biking journey awaits you!
