Discover Nature at Fairy Lake

A stunning nature reserve seconds away from downtown restaurants and shops awaits when you explore Fairy Lake. A trail measuring just shy of a kilometer wraps itself around the lake, offering the chance to give yourself a moment of quiet reflection to connect with nature. Fairy Lake is the perfect spot to observe swans, ducks, turtles, as well as carp swimming just below the water's surface. Take the opportunity to feed corn and seed provided in dispensers along the water's edge (remember don't feed bread to ducks, it can make them sick!).

Fly Fishing Along the Saugeen

Southampton is home to the mouth of the Saugeen River, the 108km long meandering waterway that winds through Bruce County. Inland from Lake Huron is Denny's Dam, an angler's paradise for its abundance of salmon and trout that can be found in the river.

Denny's Dam Conservation Area, maintained by the Ontario Steelheaders Association, offers camping, picnicking, and a canoe/kayak launch point. The area is particularly popular with fly fishermen, since wading is safe and easy and wide-open spaces make for strong casting opportunities. With 1.5km of river frontage within the conservation area, there is plenty of room for you and your fellow anglers to catch fresh fish all day long.

A Golfer's Paradise

Whether you're a bogey or scratch golfer, being out on the fairways in Southampton is unmatched. Home to two of Saugeen Shores' five golf courses - Southampton Golf & Country Club and Saugeen Golf club - Southampton provides many opportunities to go out and enjoy a round surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of Bruce County.

Saugeen Golf Club boasts 27 holes situated in 3 sets of 9 - Sunset, Sunrise, and Legacy. Playing a round of 18, you'll be able to play a combination of two of these sets, meaning the next time you come play it could be a completely different course. At Southampton Golf & Country Club, you'll be able to play with golfers of all skill levels as the varying tee boxes give you a fair challenge no matter your skill level. If you're interested, you could also rent a GolfBoard to zip around the course while you're here. Looking for a quick nine holes? Look no further than the challenging yet fun South Port Golf Course for a round that will have you back in time for brunch on High Street.

Paddlers are Welcome.

Southampton is simply the perfect place to go for a paddle. Whether you're exploring the mouth of the Saugeen River up towards Denny's Dam or taking a trip out onto Lake Huron to observe Chantry Island a little more closely, there is plenty to discover. In town, rental gear outfitters will have everything you need if you don't want to bring your own equipment (or if you forgot something at home amidst all the excitement!).

Downtown Southampton

The main drag in Southampton, High Street, is lined with cafes, restaurants, boutiques and unique stores. The downtown shops and restaurants are where you'll find bagels baked that morning, still warm from the oven, or beer brewed right downtown. Make your way down towards the lake for a walk along the beach or gaze out at Lake Huron and Chantry Island from beneath the big Canadian flag.
