Holiday Cheer!

Although known as a beach town, Port Elgin is aglow with holiday lights, a downtown Christmas tree, and dazzling décor in the winter. The holiday season in Port Elgin kicks off with a community tree lighting ceremony in November, and has previously been accompanied with a shoppers night, a petting zoo, and musical entertainment. Locals and visitors alike can join in on the holiday fun. The quaint shops in Port Elgin become magical winter wonderlands full of elegant and whimsical winter décor. Plus, with so many stores from clothing to toy stores, you won't have to stray far to get your holiday shopping done!

Winter at MacGregor Point Provincial Park

Who says camping is only for the summer months? At MacGregor Point Provincial Park, you can enjoy the beauty of the glistening snow with a hot cocoa in hand inside you very own yurt. These yurts may look like a tent on the outside; however, one might argue that this is more of a glamping rather than camping experience. For more details on what to bring for your glamping experience and the history of yurts, visit Winter Glamping at MacGregor Point Provincial Park.

While the yurts provide comfort and warmth, you will want to bundle up to explore all there is to do at MacGregor Point Provincial Park outside! The snowy, tree covered trail system within the park provides ample cross-country ski routes. The Deer Run Trail is a scenic view for beginners, and you can even rent skis in nearby Southampton. Whether you are a seasoned skier or trying it out for the first time, cross-country skiing at MacGregor Point is a crowd pleaser.

Once you are done skiing, lace up your skates and check out the park's skating path which weaves through the glittering winter forest adjacent to Lake Huron. This leisurely winter skate will be sure to appease your senses as the crisp winter air passes by and the winter sun shimmers the white winter forest. Burning all that energy skiing and skating you will be sure to grow an appetite. It is a good thing MacGregor is only 8km away from Port Elgin! There you will find many great options for dinner or a sweet snack.

Cross-Country Skiing

Not only are the Port Elgin trails perfect for hiking, but the multi-use trails are also great for cross-country skiers in the winter. Beiner's Bush Trail is located only a few minutes outside the beautiful town, Port Elgin and is a winter paradise for cross-country adventures. The rolling meadows and evergreen forest makes for a winter wonderland. Maintained by the Port Elgin Cross-Country Ski Club, the scenic cedar wood trails are easily accessible and perfect for family adventures and beginner skiers.

The Woodland Trail is another great trail for cross-country skiing enthusiasts. This lovely, wooded trail connects the quaint lakeside communities, Port Elgin, and Southampton. Start in Port Elgin with a hot beverage in the morning, take the scenic route to ski to Southampton, and complete the journey in Southampton at one of the many delicious restaurants.

While the lakeshore is reminiscent of sunny, beachy says in the summer, the winter lake-effect produces lots of snow in the area, fantastic for snowmobile adventures. With over 2000 kilometers of beautifully groomed trails in Bruce County, the fun never ends. You can expect unparalleled views of Lake Huron, rolling farmland, shaded forests, and the stunning Niagara Escarpment.

Whether you follow the Saugeen River Tour along the mighty Saugeen River or stick by the lakeshore; you will be surrounded by Bruce County beauty. Nearby Port Elgin, the Southampton Snowmobile Club is a wonderful place to warm up, share some food, and make some new sledding friends!

Be sure to visit ofsc.on.ca to locate parking and purchase your trail pass. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) also provides an interactive map of all Ontario trails, which works great to plan your trip to Bruce County.
