Summer Symphony August 10 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM Music-on-the-Bruce kicks off their summer season with a mesmerizing performance featuring a set of five songs for string quartet and voice by Toronto-based composer Ian Cusson. Cusson, who is of Georgian Bay Métis descent, has garnered international acclaim for his compositions that often explore themes of identity and Indigenous history. The poignant and evocative lyrics of the songs are by Marilyn Dumont, a Métis poet whose work is known for its powerful portrayal of Indigenous experiences. Cusson’s use of her poetry adds a profound layer of meaning to the performance, highlighting the resilience and beauty of Métis culture. Bringing these compositions to life is the renowned Canadian opera singer Joanna Diindiisikwe Simmons. Simmons, whose ancestral roots trace back to the Saugeen Ojibwe Nation, is celebrated for her captivating performances and her commitment to showcasing Indigenous voices in the world of opera.
