Sauble Falls Conservation Area
Start your adventure with a visit to Sauble Falls Provincial Park. During the fall, the Chinook Salmon make their way up the falls to spawn up river. This natural phenomenon is amazing to witness in person and you can’t help but cheer as the fish battle their way up. Camping remains open at Sauble Falls Provincial Park until October 31 so it’s the perfect time for a fall getaway.

Consider adding a paddle on the Sauble River to your plans. With fall colours lining the banks, this calm river makes a beautiful fall paddle. Canoe rentals are available at Sauble Falls Provincial Park and be sure to ask camp staff about river conditions. Find out more about the route here.

Saugeen Beach
Visit one of the world’s longest freshwater beach, Saugeen Beach! With plenty of room to spread out along this freshwater beach, it’s the perfect place to spend your day. September water can be quite warm so not only can you curl up with a book, you can also take a dip on those warm autumn days. Surf, paddle or SUP before reaching for your hoodie and sweats for an evening campfire. Don’t have your own equipment? Grab your rentals from Extreme World or Jack n Jills.

Spirt Rock Conservation Area
While your in Wiarton, visit Spirit Rock and McNeill’s Estate Conservation Area located just north of town. This unique conservation area features the ruins of an old estate and a metal spiral staircase that leads you down the escarpment to the stunning blue waters of Colpoy’s Bay. Pack a few treats and unwind at the park’s picnic tables for a fall lunch with a view.

Grieg’s Caves
Greig’s Cave, located just outside Wiarton near Cape Croker, is a unique natural attraction forming 400 million years ago, features a series of shallow caves set into the Niagara Escarpment. These impressive formations are also known as “Ontario’s Largest Natural Limestone Caves.” Explore a series of ten limestone caves and enjoy views of Georgian Bay from 300 feet. While exploring the caves, make sure you have proper footwear as its required for entry, and bring a flashlight to help you see inside the caves.

Bruce Caves
Follow the stunning 11km hike along the edge of Skinner’s Bluff, on the Bruce Trail, and you’ll find Bruce’s Caves Conservation Area. During your hike you’ll pass multiple spectacular ridgetop views along the way. The Bruce’s Caves are a timeworn wave-cut cave (or sea cave) that is now nestled within the greenery of ancient cedars. It hosts a prominent rock pillar in the centre of the cavern. Remember to bring your camera to capture the beautiful views over Georgian Bay.
