While many of the trails in Bruce County are for a more seasoned explorer, we offer many options for hiking for the entire family to enjoy, too!
Walk About Southampton
Fairy Lake in Southampton is a quiet sanctuary in the heart of town. This all-season trail is an amazing adventure for young explorers and adults alike; the in-land lake is home to fish, ducks, geese, and turtles!
Connecting Southampton and Port Elgin, The Saugeen Rail Trail is an all-season, multi-use trail. With multiple access points, this trail is another great option for families.
Port Elgin’s Trails are Perfect for Adventure
Port Elgin hosts a great variety of options for a family hike, for all abilities. To indulge in the sights and sounds of Lake Huron, be sure to wander down to the Port Elgin Waterfront Promenade and North Shore Trail, a perfect course with water views for biking with your children in tow. You’ll find a calmness amongst nature throughout the Woodland Trail system. It is a relatively low-impact trail that features the locally famous Ghost Ridge – a fascinating discovery for young explorers. The Biener Trail is another favourite amongst locals and visitors year-round. The ever-changing trees are a breathtaking sight through every season and boast a little extra magic on the snowiest days.
Wander Through Kincardine’s Trails
Kincardine’s colour-coded trail system makes it easy to stay on course while soaking up the scenery. We highly recommend taking advantage of the ample parking options downtown and sauntering down to the lake to follow the accessible waterfront boardwalk, followed by a visit to Geddes Park.
Venture to the Interior
If you and your family are looking to explore the Bruce County Interior, visit Lions Wilderness Park for your children to enjoy the playground before accessing the Bruce Trail or the Bruce County Rail Trail. The small and humble community of Paisley offers another access point to the Rail Trail system, featuring stunning views from Willow Creek Bridge. Continue your excursion along the Rail Trail in Ripley, where your hike will lead you through a heritage flower garden and bountiful apple trees before merging with the main trail system.
